In his more than 25 years of practice, Mike Carr has established himself as a premier workers’ compensation subrogation attorney for his ground-breaking expertise in the areas of workers’ compensation subrogation and employer liability law. He has previously headed up the National Association of Subrogation Professionals (NASP), a non-profit leader in subrogation education and networking. Mike was the primary drafter of the sweeping Minnesota workers’ compensation subrogation legislation that codified employer liability under Lambertson and the employer’s right to “waive and walk” to avoid exposure beyond workers’ compensation. Mike is a top Minnesota workers’ compensation subrogation lawyer, having litigated numerous trials and appeals impacting subrogation law, including Tyroll, Jackson, Zurich v. Bjelland and Alsaker. Mike was also on the editorial committee of Minnesota Defense magazine for over 10 years, has presented at numerous regional and national seminars, and has authored many articles focusing primarily on litigation, contracts, insurance, employment, and workers’ compensation subrogation for lawyers, insurance groups, and employers.

Mike is a former investigator for the Fourth Judicial District Legal Ethics Board and is presently on the Professionalism Committee of the Minnesota State Bar Association.  Mike has also served extensively as a neutral mediator and arbitrator.  Before joining the firm, Mike was one of only 31 lawyers of the over 16,000 lawyers in Minnesota who was nominated and voted by his peers to be a Super Lawyer in the General Litigation category by Minnesota Law & Politics magazine.

Mike is a former elementary school teacher, camp director, scout leader, and canoe guide. He and his wife, Ann, are very involved with their three children, and Mike has coached and served on many boards for their sporting activities. Over the years, Mike has volunteered for numerous organizations, including when he monitored micro-loan programs in Guatemala with World Vision, helped paint an elementary school in Manzanillo, assisted in re-building a fire-damaged home in Appalachia, taught human rights to junior high school students, escorted blind adults for the Society for the Blind, and participated in the Big Brother program. Mike presently serves on the marketing board of the educational non-profit PACER Center, where he has previously worked as a policy specialist and parent advocate on behalf of families of children with disabilities.
