Arthur Chapman Participates in AchieveMpls' Graduation Coaches Program

April 7, 2015

Minneapolis, MN – April 7, 2015  Employees of the Arthur Chapman Law Firm continue to participate in AchieveMpls’ Graduation Coaches program.  The program pairs a community mentor with Minneapolis high school juniors and seniors as they prepare to apply to and attend college, many as the first in their families to go to college.

The Graduation Coaches program aligns with the Firm’s Diversity Initiative and allows individuals to give back to the Minneapolis community.  For the 2014-15 school year, Arthur Chapman attorney Corey Bronczyk and paralegal Sue Kroehler have – and continue to – mentor students, giving their time as a sounding board, provide guidance on topics such as the college application process, goal-setting, self-awareness, and self-promotion.  The experiences of Bronczyk and Kroehler have been different, though unite both in the steadfast belief that they may be the only people their mentees may have to talk to about the challenges and rewards of college.

Bronczyk, from a small town where many of his high school classmates didn’t attend college, sees the program as a chance to inspire at least one student to complete high school and go on to college.  Bronczyk has answered several questions about what to expect at college and has also assisted with research regarding in and out-of-state tuition eligibility.  He sees the chance to have an impact on even one student as a worthwhile incentive to serve in the mentor capacity and intends to continue with the program into the next school year.

Kroehler’s experience has put her in front of a number of students as schedules and situations change.  If nothing else, it’s helped her to be even more aware of the dynamics involved for many of the mentees who may have no other outlet for asking questions and/or are just focused on getting through high school. Kroehler appreciates the opportunity to hear about the students’ backgrounds and how different the work is from that which she does as a paralegal.  She looks forward to being paired with one student in the next school year and assisting them through graduation.
